Course Description

The course examines the relationship between theatre and contemporary performing arts, with an emphasis on distinguishing theatre from performance art and understanding their intersections. It introduces students to the use of new technologies as an integral component of artistic creation, focusing on video performance art, video installations, and video-based artistic practices. Students are encouraged to develop original works that integrate performance and digital media, culminating in the creation of video-based projects intended for public presentation in galleries, festivals, theatres, and other exhibition contexts. The course also highlights the role of artistic production in shaping the visibility of emerging artists and supporting portfolio and showreel development, while contributing to the broader cultural presence of the academic institution.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • critically reflect on the relationship between theatre and contemporary performing arts;
  • understand and distinguish between theatre, performance art, and hybrid forms involving new media;
  • engage with developments in video art, video performance, and digital performance practices;
  • apply basic skills in production, filming, and visual composition;
  • edit and process digital video material using editing software;
  • develop and present a video-based artistic project suitable for public exhibition.
